Lieutenant Colonel Coleman was born in Greenville, South Carolina. He received his commission after graduating from The Citadel with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering in May 2008.
After completing The Basic School in December 2008, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman attended the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Upon graduating from Fort Sill, he reported to Battery G, 2d Battalion, 10th Marines as the Fire Direction Officer and Executive Officer. From July 2010 to July 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman served as the Battalion Fire Direction Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Operations Officer for 2d Battalion, 10th Marines.
In July 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman attached to 2d Battalion, 9th Marines as the Artillery Liaison Officer and Fire Support Coordinator. While attached to 2d Battalion, 9th Marines, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman deployed to Afghanistan from November 2011 to May 2012 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. While deployed, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman was selected to attend the Naval Postgraduate School to participate in the Marine Corps' Special Education Program.
In June 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman reported to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He graduated with a Masters of Science in Information Warfare Engineering in September 2014. Following graduation, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman reported to 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade to serve as the Technical Information Operations Officer until December 2016.
Upon completion of his tour as the Technical Information Operations Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman reported to 2d Battalion, 11th Marines. His initial assignment was as the Assistant Operations Officer, from December 2016 to May 2017 before assuming the duties as the Battery Commander of Battery F from June 2017 to February 2018. In March 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman attached to Task Force Al Taqaddum 18.2 to serve as the Fires and Effects Coordinator, deploying to Iraq in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE from August 2018 to April 2019.
Upon his return from Iraq, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman reported to Naval Station Newport Rhode Island for assignment as the Executive Officer of Marine Corps Detachment Newport from July 2019 to July 2021. Following this assignment Lieutenant Colonel Coleman was selected to attend the College of Naval Command and Staff at the Naval War College and graduated with a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies in June 2022.
Upon his graduation from the Naval War College, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman reported to 2d Battalion, 10th Marines and served as the Operations Officer from June 2022 to July 2023. Following this assignment Lieutenant Colonel Coleman was selected to deploy to Security Assistance Group-Ukraine as the Deputy Fire Support Coordinator from September 2023 to March 2024. Upon his return, Lieutenant Colonel Coleman served as the SPMAGTF-Fleet Week Miami Executive Officer before assuming his present duties.
His personal decorations include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 Gold Stars), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
