Lieutenant Colonel Jared R. Swancer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Pennsylvania State University in 2007. In December 2009, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and designated a Communications Officer in 2010.
Lieutenant Colonel Swancer's first assignment was with Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 (MWCS-28), where his billets included Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer/Operations Officer, and Squadron Assistant Operations Officer. He deployed twice with MWCS-28 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
In 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Swancer attended resident Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) and Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Communications Planners Course (MCPC). Upon graduation from EWS and MCPC, he was assigned to the Joint Communications Support Element (JCSE) from 2015-2018 where he served as a Company Commander and J-35 Planner/Future Operations Officer, and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL as a Joint Special Operations Task Force J-6 Operations Officer.
In 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Swancer executed orders to 2d Marine Raider Support Battalion (2dMRSB) as the Communications Company Commander. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE as the S-6 for Special Operations Task Force – North, then took over as the 2dMRSB Executive Officer.
In 2021, Lieutenant Colonel Swancer attended Command and Staff College (CSC) and earned a Master of Military Studies then transitioned to Officer Candidates School (OCS) where he served as the Delta Company Commander and OCS Operations Officer.
In 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Swancer was assigned to Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Group as a Division Head before taking command of Region 9, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group in 2026.
His Professional Military Education includes: Expeditionary Warfare School (resident), MAGTF Communications Planners Course, Basic Airborne Course, Special Operations Planners Course, Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape Course, and Command and Staff College (resident).
Lieutenant Colonel Swancer's personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Joint Service Commendation Medal with 'C' Device, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star.
