Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Check is a Marine Raider Officer currently serving as the Commander, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, Region 5. A native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, he commissioned in 2007 from Virginia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering.
LtCol Check initially served as a Signals Intelligence Officer with deployments to Afghanistan and South Korea, commanding at the Operational Control Element, platoon, and company levels. He transitioned to the Marine Raider community in 2014 and has since commanded at the Special Operations Team, Company, and Task Force levels with deployments to Northwest Africa, East Africa, and the Philippines.
LtCol Check has served in key staff assignments throughout his career including assistant operations officer, operations officer, Commander’s Action Group member and Aide de Camp, USCENTCOM liaison officer, and Executive Officer. He has served with 3d Radio Battalion, 3d Marine Raider Battalion, 1st Marine Raider Battalion, Joint Special Operations Command, the Marine Raider Regiment, and Marine Corps Forces Special Operation Command Headquarters.
LtCol Check holds a Master of Arts in Diplomacy from Norwich University a Master of Science in Applied Computing with a Strategic Leadership certificate from the Naval Postgraduate School. He is also a Professional Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation.
