Mission Overview

During periods of increased threat, in support of the Department of State, MSAU deploys responsive, specially trained augmentation security forces to provide security at designated United States diplomatic and consular facilities overseas in order to protect United States diplomatic personnel and prevent the compromise of national security information and equipment.

Primary Role: MSAU provides rapid, random, and periodic augmentation to Marine Security Guard (MSG) detachments at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world.

Purpose: To reinforce diplomatic and consular facilities during:
    Pre-crisis situations
    Periods of increased threat
    Civil unrest or political instability

Deployment Capability: MSAU teams can be dispatched globally on short notice, often within hours, to bolster security where MSGs need backup.
