First Sergeant Okun was born on 15 August 1989 in Chicago, Illinois. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 10 May 2010 and graduated from Recruit Training with the 3rd Recruit Training Battalion at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on 8 August 2010. Following recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton and then reported to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, for training as a Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) Repairman (MOS 2147).
Upon graduation, Lance Corporal Okun was assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Pendleton, where he served as a line company mechanic for Charlie Company, 2nd Platoon. In August 2012, Corporal Okun was reassigned to Echo Company, where he served as the Company Ramp Chief and Section Leader. In October 2012, he attended the LAV Technician course at Fort Lee, Virginia, graduating at the top of his class.
In January 2014, Sergeant Okun graduated from Drill Instructor School, Class 2-14, at MCRD San Diego. He was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, where he served as a Drill Instructor and later as a Senior Drill Instructor.
In January 2017, Sergeant Okun was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant. He then moved to the Crash Fire Rescue community and attended the DoD Fire Academy. Upon graduation, he reported to MWSS-374 at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, where he served as the Operations Chief and Senior Enlisted Leader for Company A.
In February 2020, Staff Sergeant Okun was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and assigned to MWSS-372. He was stationed at MCAS Camp Pendleton, where he served with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron as the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, ARFF SNCOIC, and Squadron Gunnery Sergeant. In January 2021, he was named the 2021 DoD Fire Officer of the Year and was also recognized as Camp Pendleton's Enlisted Marine of the Year for 2022.
In December 2023, he was selected and frocked to the rank of First Sergeant. He reported to Marine Aircraft Group 12, where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Personnel Support Detachment and deployed to South Korea in support of the Korean Marine Exchange Program. In May 2024, First Sergeant Okun transferred to MWSS-171, Company B, where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader. In April 2023, First Sergeant Okun was transferred to Headquarters Company, where he currently served as the Senior Enlisted Leader.
First Sergeant Okun currently is the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group Region 4 Senior Enlisted Leader.
First Sergeant Okun earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership.
