Lieutenant Colonel Charles Broun was born in Memphis, Tn. He commissioned in May 2008 after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. He then attended The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course.
In 2009, Second Lieutenant Broun reported to 3d Battalion, 5th Marines. He served as Rifle Platoon Commander, Weapons Platoon Commander, Advisor Team Leader, and CAAT Platoon Commander. He deployed to Afghanistan during OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 10-2.
First Lieutenant Broun returned to The Basic School in 2012 and served as a Warfighting Instructor and then Staff Platoon Commander for the Warrant Officer Basic Course. He then reported to the Infantry Officer Course and served as Instructor, Class Advisor, and Deputy Director. Following this tour he attended the Expeditionary Warfare School.
In 2016, Captain Broun reported to 3d Battalion, 5th Marines, served as a Company Commander for SEA DRAGON 2025 and deployed on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. Following this, he became the Operations Officer for Battalion Landing Team 3/5 and deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit for WESTPAC 19-2. He then served as Battalion Executive Officer during the battalion's deployment in support of the South-West Border Security Mission in 2020.
From 2020 to 2023, Major Broun served as the Commanding Officer of Recruiting Station Chicago. Following this assignment, he reported to the 1st Marine Division for duties as the as the G-3 Current Operations Officer and completed the Air Force Command and Staff College.
In June 2025 Lieutenant Colonel Broun transferred to Region 4, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, to serve as the Commanding Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Broun’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with one Gold Star, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device and one Gold Star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one Gold Star, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
